I love the design overall. However, I would have at least added floating shelves in the kitchen on the tiled wall to match the oven hood.

No upper cabinets in the main part of the kitchen is what you are now seeing in custom very high-end kitchens by top designers. In this type of arrangement where it is designed new (not necessarily a remodel), a whole wall is fitted with floor to ceiling cabinets that also may incorporate a refrigerator concealed by similar paneled doors. In addition, a smaller room called a Butler's Pantry is included, and this room has additional storage. The main kitchen being open is treated more as a living space, with artwork and open shelves on the walls where the upper cabinets used to be. Some Butler's pantries are like in fact another (smaller) kitchen, and has a station for coffee. Other trends include more colorful kitchens, especially on the lower cabinets painted in navy, or dark green, or even pink, or very dark pigmented yellow.

This style of house is technically called "split entry" because there is really only an upstairs and a downstairs (2 floors), divided by an entry level. A true split level will have a main floor that is actually split level, via a step up or a step down, and the kitchen is usually at ground level. One unique feature of the split-entry house is that the kitchen is always on the upper level, which, if there's a view, can be a plus.

No property is unsellable, the only obstacle is the price! Ask top dollar for an old outdated unmodernised property and of course it won't sell! As for the "after" typical designer foul ups, the open banister is lethal were there ever a toddler there, the colour schemes are dreadful, I mean dark brown, grey, blue yellow beige, it's like a bilious attack, I have only ever seen such a mish mash of non complimentary colours when so called designers are involved, I'm sure they they must have a degree in poor colour schemes or they themselves are totally colour blind! And old fashioned dark brown wood, in a modernised home, my gosh a Victorian throwback.
